2010 continues at a record setting pace. Our global commercial performance, coupled with the growing clinical acceptance of our technology, validates our market initiatives. At the recent annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine, PEM was featured in 9 poster and podium presentations, demonstrating growing acceptance in academia and clinical practice.  One notable abstract from this meeting showed how our customers will be able to lower radiation to the patient by using 5 mCi and potentially as little as 2.5 mCi of FDG, a topic of great interest amongst our current and future users.  To this end, we are supporting prospective research at Swedish Cancer Institute to definitively demonstrate that we can cut the FDG dose at least in half, if not by a quarter.  Of note, current customers in Japan are already routinely using 5 mCi of FDG which is the standard of care for Whole Body PET scans there and are obtaining results that are comparable to customers in North America.

We are also excited about our continued international expansion having recently installed our first scanner in Caracas Venezuela, with more countries in Latin America and Asia this year, and Europe in 2011. 

Finally, we have recently launched an updated version of our website which features new content such as archived educational webinars for physicians as well as an educational PEM positioning video for technologists.

PET_Pig_caseFDG Dose Reduction Study Underway at Swedish Cancer Institute
Drs James Rogers and David Beatty from Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) in Seattle have initiated a prospective trial with a primary objective of determining the lowest dose of FDG required to produce high quality images as well as assess the pre-surgical value of PEM. Preliminary data presented recently at the Society of Nuclear Medicine Annual Meeting as well as at the upcoming American Association of Physicists in Medicine show that 5 mCi of FDG and potentially 2.5 mCi produces comparable images to the standard North American dose of 10 mCi at half the radiation dose to the patient and technologist.
